Really, perhaps send an email to your government official for doing something very good with your tax dollars. So you could go ask/check which code applied (but that's probably a bit pedantic). Nothing! Buildings currently in construction don't need to meet the new code, it's only buildings going to be permitted and built in the future. Okay - I'm buying a condo - what do I do now? These costs are a downside but the upside is a better product - a better building. Builders will spend more time ensure the construction follows the new details etc.

Designers and architects will spend more time and effort detailing junctions in their drawings. Acoustical engineers will need to spend more time and effort doing calculations to ensure ASTC compliance. Lastly, the Code has a number of methods (well beyond the scope of this article) for calculations but simply put, I feel (bias acknowledged) that this is the best option going forward. The prescribed construction is incredibly detailed and does not allow for any deviation in the design. The Code also has an option to build exactly as prescribed in their published construction, but many builders may find this quite limiting and material costs may be greater than expected. Clearly, if you choose to change nothing in the design and construction, and measure when things are done, this may be cheap initially but very risky since if there's a problem, fixing this post-construction can be very expensive. There's pluses and minuses to all options.
